At Harborlight, our Turkey Chores and Food Drive is a community event organized by the middle school students around the Thanksgiving season. It typically has two parts:
Turkey Chores – Student-participants help with small jobs or chores around the home to earn a donation or contribute to the drive. These chores can include things like cleaning, organizing, or helping neighbors. The “earnings” or efforts support the purchase of the turkeys for the family dinners distributed to Pathways for Children Families.
Food Drive – Participants bring in non-perishable food items, such as canned goods, pasta, or rice, to be donated to local families in need through the Beverly Bootstraps. Sometimes, the food collected is combined with contributions from the Turkey Chores efforts to help ensure everyone at Pathways for Children has a meal for Thanksgiving.
Overall, the event combines service, community involvement, and generosity, helping teach responsibility while supporting those in need during the holiday season.
