Join us for an informal conversation focused on how social-emotional learning (SEL) is intentionally nurtured at Harborlight—both through the formal curriculum and in the daily rhythm of classroom life. Parents will hear from educators about the structured SEL programs we use, such as Open Circle and other peace education practices, that explicitly teach empathy, communication, conflict resolution, and emotional regulation.
We’ll also highlight the many strategies embedded in the Montessori environment that foster emotional intelligence and a strong sense of community—such as grace and courtesy lessons, collaborative problem-solving, classroom meetings, and peer mentorship in mixed-age groups.
The talk will conclude with an open Q&A session, giving parents the chance to ask questions, share reflections, and connect directly with educators about social-emotional learning at Harborlight.

We’ll discuss how elements such as task orientation, time management, sequencing, and persistence are naturally cultivated through the structure and design of the classroom and lessons.

    Preparation for Life
Join us for a virtual conversation to learn how Harborlight’s Montessori approach prepares students not just for school, but for life.
You’ll hear about the ways Harborlight connects learning to the real world through “going out” experiences that take students into the community—not your typical field trips, but purposeful excursions designed by the students themselves. We’ll also discuss overnight trips that build teamwork and resilience, classroom micro-economies that teach financial literacy and collaboration, and the vibrant campus life that includes gardening, animal care, and community service. These experiences, both on and off campus, give students meaningful opportunities to apply what they learn and develop a strong sense of responsibility and belonging.
