Middle School News 9/11/2020

Each Friday, the middle school students will present a brief snapshot of what they learned, saw, and experienced that week. Beginning next week, the students will be on a rotating schedule to write this snapshot, and hopefully create a fun “column” name.
Each Friday, the middle school students will present a brief snapshot of what they learned, saw, and experienced that week. This will be the last communication from me, as the students will be on a rotating schedule to write this snapshot, and hopefully create a fun “column” name.

Our first three days were a whirlwind of acclimating to new systems and a new environment. We are spread out 6 feet apart and hopping from the center room to side room based on technology needs. Masks are the newest accessory and auditory challenge. We have had fun playing Mad Libs (parts of speech refresher!), free writing, sharing current events, and watching a 3 minute clip of “Gilmore Girls” to witness two opposing sides of studying “history.”
The students are reacquainting themselves with each other and with being students, as well as starting our personal world lessons on self-compassion and self-regulation. As we start studying American history we will really be using a wide multicultural lens, reading the work of Howard Zinn, Ronald Takai, and Jason Reynolds and Ibram X. Kendi, among others. We will also be delving into the presidential election as we get closer to November.

Stay tuned for next week’s first student written column!
