The relationship between a Board of Trustees and an independent school is vital. The Board supports the Harborlight Montessori mission and acts strategically to protect the long-term best interests of the school and its students.

Doug Bowker, Trustee

Doug lives in Salem with his wife Kristen and their son Colin, who started in Children’s House  in 2009 . F rom the beginning, Doug has been an enthusiastic volunteer and outspoken in his support for the Montessori approach to education. He has a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design, and has managed teams of product designers and digital animators. For the past eleven years he has run his own 3D animation and consulting business, with clients both local and international. As a volunteer for the school he  has applied this background in the production of several videos for the school, along with a range of other communications materials.  He was a also founding member of the Salem’s  first parent organization in 2007 (Parents United of Salem) and served on its leadership board for four years.

Kathy Carley, Trustee

Kathy Carley is Executive Director of Project CHILLD (Center for Holistic Integration of Listening, Learning and Development), which she founded in 2001. Kathy’s occupational therapy experience includes working in school systems, early intervention, and private clinics, hospitals and community-based programs.  She has a B.S. in Occupational Therapy from the State University of New York at Buffalo and a M.S. in Occupational Therapy from Sargent College, Boston University.

Brett Collins, Trustee

Brett is a Managing Director at State Street Global Advisors and Chief Operating Officer of the firm’s Investment Solutions Group. He has held a number of leadership and investment roles at SSGA in both Boston and London, and previously worked at Nomura Asset Management and Gannett, Welsh & Kotler. Brett holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and a BS from Babson College, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst. Brett lives in Marblehead with his wife Minora and their son.

John M. Cusolito, Jr., Trustee

John is Vice President and Manager of Public & Media Relations for Liberty Mutual.  He holds a B.A. degree in English from Boston College.  He is a member of the St. Mary Star of the Sea (Beverly) Parish Council and is Chair of the Hamilton Wenham Recreation Board, a member of the Hamilton Wenham Little League Board of Directors and a coach of various youth sports. He and his wife Doreen live in Wenham with their son.

Cathy Favreau, Trustee 

Cathy has been a Harborlight parent since 2006. She is the Language Department Chair, Middle School Latin teacher and 6th Grade Class Dean at The Rivers School in Weston. She holds a B.A. in Latin and Greek from Vassar College and an MAT in Latin and Classical Humanities from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Cathy served on the Head Search Committee. She and her husband Tony Boisvert live in Salem with their three sons.

Jim Kaloutas, Chair

Jim is the president of Kaloutas Painting and is an active member of Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO), an international organization dedicated to the education and advancement of entrepreneurship.  He and his wife Rhonda live in Marblehead with their two children.

Katy Langhorst, Trustee

Katy holds a degree in Child Psychology from Yale and a Master’s in Elementary Education from Lesley University. She is a Curriculum and Training Consultant for StudyPoint, a national not-for-profit educational company, where her projects include employee coaching, sales training, managing their full-time on-boarding and training program, developing curricular materials for student-facing programs, and providing strategic guidance to company management. She and her husband, Brad, are the parents of Anna and Max.

Leslie Starritt, Trustee

Leslie Starritt is a mother of two, and lives in Gloucester with her husband, Christopher, two kids, and big, muppet dog, Ohio. She earned a Juris Doctorate from The University of Tennessee College of Law, class of 2010, and is licensed to practice law in both Tennessee and Massachusetts. Leslie primarily works with clients needing estate and trust planning and with complicated Medicaid and Elder Law cases and is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, the Massachusetts Bar Association, and the Essex County Bar Association. Before law school, Leslie earned a BFA in fine arts from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago where she studied sculpture and film, specializing in bronze metal casting.
