    Parent/Caregiver Education: Toileting Learning

Supporting Toileting Independence the Montessori Way
Toileting is a natural and important step on the child’s journey toward independence. In Montessori, we see this process as more than a physical milestone—it is an opportunity for the child to build confidence, self-awareness, and dignity.
In this workshop, we will explore:
    • Signs that a child is developmentally ready to begin toileting
    • How to prepare the home environment with tools that foster independence
    • Using consistent language and routines to support success
    • How home and school can work together to guide the child through this transition
This session will provide you with practical strategies as well as insights into how toileting fits into the larger Montessori approach to independence. Whether you are beginning to prepare or already in the midst of the process, you will leave with confidence and tools to support your child.

  • Kindergarten Swim Begins

Kindergarten students participate in weekly swim class at the YMCA Sterling Center. Weather permitting, the group walks together or they travel using Harborlight transportation. At the first class, each child is assessed for swimming ability and placed in an appropriate developmental group to ensure safe, skill-building lessons. This experience also serves as a first introduction to the Going Out program, a hallmark of Montessori elementary education, where children learn to extend their classroom into the wider community and build independence through purposeful outings.

    Pumpkin Patch Day

Autumn is here, and with it comes one of our favorite traditions - Pumpkin Patch Day! Students in all grades head out to the greenhouse lawn by class to wander among the pumpkins and select their own special one to take home. After picking pumpkins, they’ll gather together to share a snack and listen to a story. To add to the fun, we invite everyone to come dressed for the occasion in their best flannel shirt or overalls.
    (This is a student-only event.)
