Biomimicry in the Middle School

Middle School students visited the PEM to look at the Wild Design Exhibit to begin their engineering project in BIo-Mimicry or Design by Nature. They looked at all the different examples where an engineering solution came from observing something in nature. Next they will continue to study the practice and eventually come up with an idea of their own.

Bio-mimicry is a term that was coined in 1997 by Jane Benyus and it has begun a new engineering practice of using designs in nature, which has been ‘designing’ for over 3 billion years, to suggest solutions to engineering problems.
